  • Mitch Evans climbs 10 place to P9 and demonstrates progress for the team
  • Evans secures fastest lap of round 8 of the Berlin E‑Prix and moves to fourth in drivers’ championship standings
  • James Calado’s race cut short after heavy contact from the GEOX Dragon of Sette Câmara who later received a penalty from the FIA Stewards.

Round 8 of the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E season six finale was full of progress today for Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s return to the traditional track layout at Berlin Tempelhof double‑header.

Mitch Evans climbed an impressive ten places from P19 to P9. Scything through the field with purpose he set the fastest lap of the race and with it a valuable point. The Kiwi is now focused on securing as many points as possible in the remaining three races as we reach the half‑way point in the Berlin finale.

After out qualifying his team‑mate the race was less fortunate for James Calado who, after making up an impressive 3 places on the opening lap, was an innocent victim of Sette Câmara losing control of his GEOX Dragon whilst trying to defend from Alexander Sims. Câmara made very heavy contact with the Briton, sending him spinning and causing terminal damage to his Jaguar I‑TYPE 4 which ended his race which was looking to be very promising.

The team will now build on the positive progress made and will focus on improving their qualifying performance.

A day of two halves for us ‑ we didn't optimise our qualifying performance which meant we faced a challenging race today. James did a fantastic job to make up three places in the opening lap. He was looking very strong and settling into the race when he was hit by Sette Câmara in what was a completely out of control move. This was very disappointing for James and incredibly frustrating for the team. Mitch had one of his hallmark drives through the field ‑ from P19 through to ninth with the fastest lap was fantastic progress. It's great that we've found some of the race pace we had before Berlin. We now need to work on our qualifying performance and if we can put that together we should have a strong final three races. We'll give it our all right until the end.

Panasonic Jaguar Racing Team Director

After a disappointing qualifying being down in P19 I had a really good feeling in the race and managed to make up 10 places and finishing P9 with a fastest lap which is a good feeling. Our first points in Berlin which is a nice step forward. Hopefully that puts is in a good way for tomorrow and we can qualify towards the front and show our true pace again.

Panasonic Jaguar Racing Driver #20

I made an amazing start ‑ I gained three places in the first lap and it was looking okay, the Jaguar I‑TYPE 4 felt on form and points could’ve been on the table. I was minding my own business, saving energy and I got hit out of nowhere really hard just into turn nine. The Dragon and he was about 50 metres behind – looked like he had some issue but it took me off and it was race over.

ABOUT PANASONIC JAGUAR RACING

Jaguar returned to racing in October 2016, becoming the first premium manufacturer to join the all‑electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship street racing series. In 2019 the team won the Rome E‑Prix – Jaguar’s first international motorsport victory since 1991.

Formula E is a real world test bed for Jaguar to make fearless progress in the future of electrification.

As an official manufacturer team in Formula E, Panasonic Jaguar Racing designs its own powertrain, which includes the motor, transmission, inverter and rear suspension. To control costs the carbon fibre chassis and battery are common components and the same for all twelve teams. This allows the focus to be on developing electric vehicle powertrains which are efficient and lightweight which will improve the performance and range of future Jaguar Land Rover electric vehicles.

This is the second year teams will be racing with the futuristic Generation 2 racecars. Teams have two racecars, one per driver, which will be used for the full race distance.

Beyond its all‑electric concept, Formula E is unique in the world of motorsport for its choice of venues. The championship takes place on temporary street circuits in the centre of the world’s major cities.
