20 February 2020

  • Panasonic Jaguar Racing announce Sacha Fenestraz as one of their drivers that will pilot the Jaguar I‑TYPE 4 at next month’s rookie test in Marrakesh
  • Rookie driver testing takes place on Sunday 1 March, after the Marrakesh E‑Prix and is open to drivers who have previously never held an e‑licence

20 February 2020, Whitley, United Kingdom:

Panasonic Jaguar Racing welcomes test driver Sacha Fenestraz to drive the Jaguar I‑TYPE 4 in the one‑day ‘rookie’ test on 1 March following the Marrakesh E‑Prix.

Twenty‑year‑old Sacha has raced in some of the most competitive single‑seater series in the world. He was born in France and grew up in Argentina where he dominated the national karting scene. When he turned 13, he made the bold move to Europe to pursue his dream of becoming a racing driver.

In the early days of his career, Sacha asserted his dominance in French Formula F4, Formula Renault and FIA Formula 3 where he fine‑tuned his race‑craft. In 2019, he proved his worth by securing the Japanese Formula 3 title at his first attempt and achieved his third single seater title in five years. 2020 sees Sacha remain racing in Japan in the fast and competitive Super Formula and Super GT500 championships.

I am extremely happy and grateful for this amazing opportunity Panasonic Jaguar Racing have given me. I’m really looking forward to my first experience in the Jaguar I‑TYPE 4, it’s going to be something very different to what I’m used to ‑ I’ve never driven an electric racing car before. I’m like a kid with a new toy, I just can’t wait to get to Marrakesh.

Sacha Fenestraz
Rookie Test Driver

It is great to have Sacha join us for the rookie test, he is a young driver we've had an eye on for a while having achieved a lot of success in his career to date. We’ve got a thorough test programme planned for him in Marrakesh. It’s important that we use these rookie tests to not only offer young drivers the opportunity to experience Formula E and showcase their talent but to also assist in the development of the I‑TYPE 4. The whole team are looking forward to working with him.

ABOUT PANASONIC JAGUAR RACING

Jaguar returned to racing in October 2016, becoming the first premium manufacturer to join the all‑electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship street racing series. In 2019 the team won the Rome E‑Prix – Jaguar’s first international motorsport victory since 1991.

Formula E is a real world test bed for Jaguar to make fearless progress in the future of electrification.

As an official manufacturer team in Formula E, Panasonic Jaguar Racing designs its own powertrain, which includes the motor, transmission, inverter and rear suspension. To control costs the carbon fibre chassis and battery are common components and the same for all twelve teams. This allows the focus to be on developing electric vehicle powertrains which are efficient and lightweight which will improve the performance and range of future Jaguar Land Rover electric vehicles.

This is the second year teams will be racing with the futuristic Generation 2 racecars. Teams have two racecars, one per driver, which will be used for the full race distance.

Beyond its all‑electric concept, Formula E is unique in the world of motorsport for its choice of venues. The championship takes place on temporary street circuits in the centre of the world’s major cities including Diriyah, Hong Kong, Sanya, Rome, Paris, New York and ending in a double‑header race weekend in London.
