BRYAN SELLERS TAKES WIN & CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD IN DRAMATIC HONG KONG eTROPHY RACE

10 March 2019

After starting second on the grid Bryan Sellers was the first American to win a Jaguar I‑PACE eTROPHY race in Hong Kong as he capitalised on the dramatic race to steal the top spot and take the championship lead.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing saw both drivers finish 1‑2 for the second consecutive race, as Sellers’ team mate Katherine Legge, finished second to score 15 points.

Winning in these tricky conditions in the first, true street race is a great victory. The weather wasn’t always on our side this weekend but adding maximum race day points is a fantastic achievement. It’s great that Katherine and I have been able to stand on the podium for the last two races and I hope this will continue in Sanya

Brazilian Sérgio Jimenez started last but rose through the field with a stellar drive to take the final podium position. His daring overtakes included a final corner move on Simon Evans to clinch third which pushed the Kiwi off the podium to P4.

Sérgio’s teammate, Cacá Bueno, who started the 25 minutes plus one lap race on pole, lead the race for the first few laps, until he misjudged the first corner, dropping him to P5.

It was a successful weekend for Yaqi Zhang of Jaguar China Racing, who took his first win in the Jaguar I‑PACE eTROPHY PRO‑AM series. He led the PRO‑AMs, crossing the finish line nearly two seconds ahead of second place PRO‑AM Bandar Alesayi.

I am so glad to stand on the top of podium and proud to be the first Chinese driver holding a race trophy at the Jaguar I‑PACE eTROPHY. I was more aggressive today and stayed ahead of the PRO‑AM drivers till the end. The performance and capability of the racecar is beyond my expectation and helped me push my limits. I am now looking forward to achieving another good result in two weeks’ time at the Sanya event.

Célia Martin, driver for Viessmann Jaguar eTROPHY Team Germany, also enjoyed her first Jaguar I‑PACE eTROPHY podium, achieving third place in the PRO‑AM championship and adding 11 points to her championship campaign.

Considering I have only spent a matter of hours in the Jaguar I‑PACE eTROPHY, I am really pleased with sixth place today. At one point I was up to fourth against the other championship challengers which was great. I’ve really enjoyed the whole experience.

What an incredible third race we had here on the streets of Hong Kong. It is the second wet race weekend we have had so far in the first season which posed a new challenge on track for the drivers. The narrow circuit layout which has 10 tight twists and turns caused plenty of on‑track action today. I’d like to congratulate Bryan Sellers, our third winner of the Jaguar I‑PACE eTROPHY and the first American winner.

The Jaguar I‑PACE eTROPHY is the first international series for battery electric production‑based cars and is a proof point of Jaguar Racing’s Race to Innovate mission.  The series resumes in in Sanya, China later this month on Saturday 23 March.
