Nick Cassidy, Jaguar TCS Racing driver #37, wins Round 11 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Shanghai

2 June 2025

In treacherous wet weather conditions in Shanghai, Nick Cassidy dominated Round 11 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship

  • Fastest in FP3, Nick qualified on pole and was never headed in the race – taking the win by more than seven‑seconds
  • The win sees Cassidy move up to 7th place in the Drivers’ World Championship
  • Mitch Evans in the #9 Jaguar I‑TYPE 7 finished in P14
  • The next round takes place on 21 June in Jakarta

Shanghai, China, 1 June: Nick Cassidy was peerless in Round 11 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Shanghai, taking both pole position and the race win.

After severe wet weather conditions forced a race start behind the safety car following a 90‑minute delay, Cassidy’s pace in the Jaguar I‑TYPE 7 #37 when racing began properly on lap eight – backed up by perfect team strategy – meant he was never headed and crossed the line more than seven seconds in front of the field.

Taking an early two‑minute Attack Mode on lap eight enabled Nick to build a comfortable lead ahead of Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein, the Porsche driver not able to close on Nick despite taking a four‑minute attack mode at the same time. Nick continued to simply drive away from the field in his Jaguar I‑TYPE 7 which was also comfortably up on energy, and after taking his final six‑minute Attack Mode on lap 22, Cassidy was never threatened.

Starting from P13 on the grid, Mitch Evans fought hard throughout the race but was unable to move forward into the points, finishing the race in P14.

I'm so proud of the team, this is a huge result for everyone’s hard work and commitment. This season we’ve felt we’ve had the potential for some really great results, but they haven't come our way through no fault of our own at times. Even yesterday Nick was taken out when looking very strong, the same thing happened to Mitch in Tokyo, and there have been several other races where we deserved more.

But the team have dug deep and continued to work incredibly hard, so they really deserve this result. We know the Jaguar I‑TYPE 7 has fundamental pace, and today we’ve finally been able to capitalise on that with Nick’s result. He was peerless today and has had pace in all conditions across the weekend as well. A clean sweep, fastest in FP3, pole position and untouchable in the race today – a race that he and the team executed perfectly from a strategic point of view as well. That’s no mean feat in the conditions we had.

I feel for Mitch. With the grid penalties he had to take yesterday, this weekend was always going to be tough for him – and today we couldn’t find the balance in the car he needed. In wet conditions feel is everything for a driver, and Mitch just wasn’t able to get the grip and confidence from the car he needed. But he fought hard, and as a team we’ll do the same to ensure we work on this ahead of the next round in Jakarta.

Winning today in Shanghai is an incredibly proud moment for me. We have been pushing for a result like this behind the scenes and today is all down to our dedication to unlock the pace we needed and knew we were capable of.

To be as strong as we have been across this weekend gave us the confidence to make the right decisions on our approach coming into this race ‑ which set me up for the pace and performance we had on track. Big thanks to my team who have been by my side all season and keep showing up for me. We had the best car out there today, and with executing the strategies we had planned from the outset, we’ve proved we deserve to fight at the front.

JAGUAR TCS RACING DRIVER, #37

With the penalties yesterday, and not being able to get the balance in the car I needed today ‑ it’s been a hugely frustrating race weekend. Sometimes they go like that, so all we can do is look forward. Today was a great result for Nick and the team though ‑ so we’ve shown the performance is there, we just need to put it together consistently now.

ABOUT JAGUAR TCS RACING

Jaguar returned to racing in October 2016, becoming the first luxury manufacturer to join the all‑electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship.

In 2024, Jaguar TCS Racing won the ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship, Jaguar’s first World Championship win since 1991. Jaguar also won the newly created Manufacturer’s Trophy with the I‑TYPE 6 – Jaguar’s all‑electric GEN3 Formula E race car.

Jaguar TCS Racing drivers Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy finished second and third respectively in the 2024 Drivers’ World Championship. Both Mitch and Nick will compete again for Jaguar TCS Racing in Season 11, as Formula E moves into the GEN3 Evo era. Spanning Seasons 11 and 12, GEN3 Evo will see further technical advancements to the world’s only net carbon zero all‑electric race cars including new powertrains and the adoption of all‑wheel‑drive in certain phases of qualifying and racing.

Jaguar TCS Racing have also confirmed a long‑term commitment to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship by signing to participate in the GEN4 era, set to commence in 2026 and running through seasons 13‑16.

Beyond its all‑electric concept, Formula E is unique in the world of motorsport for its choice of venues. The 2024/2025 World Championship will see many events take place on temporary street circuits in the centre of the world’s major cities including, São Paulo, Diriyah, Tokyo and Monaco. Additional new venues include Miami, with the season finale again set to play out across a double‑header race weekend in London.

As an official manufacturer team in Formula E, Jaguar TCS Racing designs its own powertrain, which includes the motor generator unit, transmission, inverter, and rear suspension. Jaguar, via its long‑term Formula E technical partner Fortescue Zero, will also supply Envision Racing with its powertrain for the GEN3 Evo era.

To control costs, the carbon fibre chassis and battery are common components and the same for all eleven teams. This allows the focus to be on developing efficient and lightweight electric vehicle powertrains which will improve the performance and range of future JLR electric vehicles.

Formula E remains a key priority for JLR and the company’s Reimagine strategy. As the premier all‑electric world championship, Formula E allows the team to test and develop new electric vehicle technologies in a high‑performance environment. It continues to be the test bed for the team’s Race to Innovate mission that will see Race to Road and Road to Race learnings that will help shape Jaguar’s all‑electric future.

Through our Race to Inspire mission, Jaguar TCS Racing are committed to inspiring the future generation by using the race programme to create a positive impact on our planet and the communities in which we race. From competing in the world’s first net zero carbon race car to supporting and training the next generation of engineers and motorsport professionals.
