Jaguar TCS Racing finished Round 3 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Saudi Arabia outside of the top 10, with Nick Cassidy finishing just outside of the points in eleventh, while Mitch Evans had contact on the opening lap, resulting in damage which ruled him out of contention.

Mitch qualified in P5, making it through to the Duels but lost out to McLaren's Taylor Barnard in the Quarter‑Finals stage by just 0.014s. Nick narrowly missed out on the Duels by just over a tenth of a second, ensuring he started the night race in P9.

In an incident‑packed first lap along the 3km Jeddah Corniche Circuit, Mitch was involved in contact with Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein and the Mahindra of Nyck de Vries, causing damage to his front wing. After trying to continue, the Jaguar TCS Racing #9 was forced to pit for repairs which resulted in Mitch dropping a lap down and receiving a five‑second time penalty for the contact. Rather than retire the car Mitch and the team used the remainder of the race to learn as much as possible for Round 4 tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Nick Cassidy and the team also had a challenging race. In the initial phases Nick and his Jaguar I‑TYPE 7 looked strong, but quickly faced technical difficulties which significantly affected his performance. Managing the issue Nick and team did their best to minimise the loss of positions and in the end just missed out on championship points, finishing P11 at the end of what was a difficult race.

Round 4 and the second race of the Jeddah E‑Prix double‑header weekend gets underway at 20:05 AST tomorrow.

Despite the team’s incredibly hard work today we did not translate that into the result that we were capable of. Our day started with a disruptive FP2 session that was red flagged twice, affecting our run plans and qualifying preparations. All things considered Mitch did a great job to progress to the quarter final duel and Nick, hindered by a settings issue, just missed out on the duels. In the race, opening lap contact determined Mitch’s result. Going a lap down so early to repair the damage and our eventual penalty meant the race turned into a test for him and the team. In Formula E the margins are sometimes so close and today that caught Mitch and the team out.

“Nick had a really difficult and long race nursing an issue from the second lap, which cost him crucial acceleration and top speed. A sitting duck, he dropped back but impressively didn’t give up and only just missed out on the points.

“So, overall, a tough day for us all, but it’s the hardest days when you learn the most and our focus overnight is going to be on the areas where we lost out today so we can come back stronger tomorrow.

Unfortunately it was a race that was over before it really got started. I got a good launch off the line but unfortunately ran into the back of Wehrlein when he was battling for position. I then misjudged trying to pass Nyck de Vries and damaged my front wing, which caused me to lose performance. I had to pit for repairs and that meant I dropped a lap down. Hopefully we will be able to extract more performance heading into the second race tomorrow.

We had some problems in the race today, I was down on power to those around me and the team could see it from the garage but we unfortunately couldn’t improve it during the race. It’s disappointing to start in ninth and finish eleventh so we know we have some work to do. We’ll regroup this evening and go again tomorrow.

ABOUT JAGUAR TCS RACING
Jaguar returned to racing in October 2016, becoming the first luxury manufacturer to join the all‑electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship.

In 2024, Jaguar TCS Racing won the ABB FIA Formula E Teams’ World Championship, Jaguar’s first World Championship win since 1991. Jaguar also won the newly created Manufacturer’s Trophy with the I‑TYPE 6 – Jaguar’s all‑electric GEN3 Formula E race car.

Jaguar TCS Racing drivers Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy finished second and third respectively in the 2024 Drivers’ World Championship. Both Mitch and Nick will compete again for Jaguar TCS Racing in Season 11, as Formula E moves into the GEN3 Evo era. Spanning Seasons 11 and 12, GEN3 Evo will see further technical advancements to the world’s only net carbon zero all‑electric race cars including new powertrains and the adoption of all‑wheel‑drive in certain phases of qualifying and racing.

Jaguar TCS Racing have also confirmed a long‑term commitment to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship by signing to participate in the GEN4 era, set to commence in 2026 and running through seasons 13‑16.

Beyond its all‑electric concept, Formula E is unique in the world of motorsport for its choice of venues. The 2024/2025 World Championship will see many events take place on temporary street circuits in the centre of the world’s major cities including, São Paulo, Diriyah, Tokyo and Monaco. Additional new venues include Miami, with the season finale again set to play out across a double‑header race weekend in London.

As an official manufacturer team in Formula E, Jaguar TCS Racing designs its own powertrain, which includes the motor generator unit, transmission, inverter, and rear suspension. Jaguar, via its long‑term Formula E technical partner Fortescue Zero, will also supply Envision Racing with its powertrain for the GEN3 Evo era.

To control costs, the carbon fibre chassis and battery are common components and the same for all eleven teams. This allows the focus to be on developing efficient and lightweight electric vehicle powertrains which will improve the performance and range of future JLR electric vehicles.

Formula E remains a key priority for JLR and the company’s Reimagine strategy. As the premier all‑electric world championship, Formula E allows the team to test and develop new electric vehicle technologies in a high‑performance environment. It continues to be the test bed for the team’s Race to Innovate mission that will see Race to Road and Road to Race learnings that will help shape Jaguar’s all‑electric future.

Through our Race to Inspire mission, Jaguar TCS Racing are committed to inspiring the future generation by using the race programme to create a positive impact on our planet and the communities in which we race. From competing in the world’s first net zero carbon race car to supporting and training the next generation of engineers and motorsport professionals.
