PRE-RACE MEDIA ADVISORY: 2024 ABB FIA FORMULA E WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: R11 & R12, SHANGHAI, 25 & 26 MAY

20 May 2024

Following Jaguar TCS Racing’s most successful double-header weekend in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, they remain top of the Teams’ World Championship with 237 points, a 54-point lead. In the drivers’ standings, Nick Cassidy is first with Mitch Evans in fifth.

The 2024 Shanghai E-Prix, which takes place around the 3.051km Shanghai International Circuit, marks a return to China for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship after a gap of four seasons.

The Shanghai E-Prix is at 15:03 CST (BST +7 hours) on both Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May.

The Tempelhof Airport circuit in Berlin was the backdrop to a thrilling double-header which saw the team deliver our most successful weekend in Formula E, earning 65 points in the Teams’ World Championship. Jaguar TCS Racing currently lead with 237 points. For our drivers, Nick also had his most successful weekend in Formula E to date, and Mitch led both races and achieved impressive points finishes over the two races. There’s a lot to be proud of so far this season – but we’re focused on what is coming.

We are excited to return to racing in China, a country that is incredibly important for Jaguar and has many new motorsport fans. This year, we’ll be competing at the Shanghai International Circuit, a track we know will create strong peloton style racing. We’re looking forward to the challenge that brings.

James Barclay
Managing Director, JLR Motorsport and Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal

I found Berlin challenging in that, despite being a front-runner across both races, I just missed out on securing podiums. I’m working closely with the team to be best prepared for the upcoming rounds in Shanghai. Returning to China will be a special moment for the team and there’s lots of excitement to be back there. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can achieve across the two days of racing, and am feeling more determined than ever.

Mitch Evans
Jaguar TCS Racing driver, #9

I had my most successful double-header weekend in Berlin, with two podiums and two fastest laps. The season now continues, and we know that in this sport nothing is guaranteed. So, in Shanghai I want to continue with that momentum to give me the best chance of remaining at the top of the leaderboard. A new track presents new challenges but I’m ready with the team to take them on.

Nick Cassidy
Jaguar TCS Racing driver, #37

ABOUT JAGUAR TCS RACING

Jaguar returned to racing in October 2016, becoming the first luxury manufacturer to join the all-electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship street racing series.

In the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Jaguar TCS Racing finished runners-up with 292 points – the team’s biggest points haul in Formula E.

Mitch Evans finished third in the 2023 Drivers’ World Championship with 197 points, his biggest points haul in Formula E, and continues to compete for the team in 2024. Nick Cassidy joins the team’s driver line-up for the 2024 season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The 2023 season saw all teams race with the Gen3 car, the world’s first net zero race car. Jaguar TCS Racing continues to race with the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 in 2024.

Beyond its all-electric concept, Formula E is unique in the world of motorsport for its choice of venues. The 2024 world championship will take place on existing tracks and temporary street circuits in the centre of the world’s major cities including Mexico City, Diriyah and Monaco, with new locations including Tokyo and Shanghai. The season finale will play out across a double-header race weekend in London.

As an official manufacturer team in Formula E, Jaguar TCS Racing designs its own powertrain, which includes the motor, transmission, inverter, and rear suspension. Jaguar, via its long-term Formula E technical partner Fortescue WAE, will supply Envision Racing with its powertrain for the Gen3 era.

To control costs, the carbon fibre chassis and battery are common components and the same for all eleven teams. This allows the focus to be on developing efficient and lightweight electric vehicle powertrains which will improve the performance and range of future JLR electric vehicles.

Formula E remains a key priority for JLR and the company’s Reimagine strategy. As the premier all-electric world championship, Formula E allows the team to test and develop new electric vehicle technologies in a high-performance environment. It continues to be the test bed for the team’s Race to Innovate mission that will see Race to Road and Road to Race learnings that will help shape the electric future – a future that Jaguar is passionate about, and dedicated to for the benefit of our society, the changing landscape of mobility, sustainability and our clients.

Through our Race to Inspire mission, Jaguar TCS Racing are committed to inspiring the future generation by using the race programme to create a positive impact on our planet and the communities in which we race. From competing in the world’s first net carbon race car to supporting and training the next generation of engineers and motorsport professionals.
