JAGUAR TCS RACING SECURE THEIR NINTH PODIUM OF THE SEASON IN THE 2024 ABB FIA FORMULA E WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

12 May 2024

Jaguar TCS Racing secured their second podium of the weekend and leave Berlin extending the lead in the Teams’ World Championship.

  • Jaguar TCS Racing secured a second‑place podium and double‑points finish in Round 10 of the all‑electric World Championship
  • Nick Cassidy completed his most successful weekend in Formula E with Jaguar TCS Racing, taking the win on Saturday and a second‑place finish on Sunday
  • Mitch Evans cycled for the lead for a second day in a row, finally finishing the race in sixth position in his Jaguar I‑TYPE 6 – scoring more valuable points for himself and the team
  • Jaguar TCS Racing lead the Teams’ World Championship with 237 points, with a gap of 54 points
  • Nick Cassidy extended his lead in the Drivers’ World Championship with Mitch Evans remaining in fifth
  • Rounds 11 and 12 of the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship take place in Shanghai on the 25 and 26 May

Nick Cassidy achieved his most successful weekend in Formula E with Jaguar TCS Racing, taking the win on Saturday, a second‑place finish on Sunday and two Fastest Laps. The result marks his seventh podium of the season and the fourth in a row to continue leading the Drivers’ World Championship. He has also achieved a hat‑trick of Fastest Laps – securing the additional point in the last three rounds of the 2024 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Mitch Evans made it through to the semi‑finals of the Duels and lined up in P4 on the grid. The 29‑year‑old had another strong race – managing his energy strategy in the Jaguar I‑TYPE 6 while fighting in the lead pack around the Tempelhof circuit. Mitch made several decisive overtakes and battled his way through the 41‑lap race without the incidents that affected many around him. The safety car in lap 25 changed the dynamic of the race and made the latter half challenging for those in contention. Despite continuing to fight for the podium right up until the final three laps, Mitch finally finished the Berlin E‑Prix in sixth – scoring more valuable points for the team.

Nick Cassidy lined up on the front row of the grid after making it through to the finals of the Qualifying Duels. The Kiwi took the lead of the Berlin E‑Prix off the start line and remained there until he went into his first ATTACK MODE activation in lap three. Nick and the team continued to make good use of the Jaguar I‑TYPE 6 to put the Kiwi into contention for the podium. On the penultimate lap of the race, Nick made an impressive move on the Nissan of Oliver Rowland to finish in second‑place.

Jaguar TCS Racing lead the Teams’ World Championship with 237 points, with a gap of 54 points. Nick Cassidy extends his lead in the Drivers’ World Championship, with Mitch Evans remaining in fifth.

Today was a really tricky race ‑ we were looking good at the start, and we were looking strong on energy. Unfortunately, a few varying factors meant we were snookered with our second ATTACK MODE and it ruined my chances of a podium. We’ll go away and analyse the data as a team and see how we can come back stronger in Shanghai.

Mitch Evans
Jaguar TCS Racing driver, #9

Another eventful race today, but it’s been a successful weekend ‑ my most successful to date in my Formula E history ‑ and we leave Berlin leading the Drivers’ World Championship. We made positive changes overnight and we had a really fast package, it felt like we’d adapted the car to be well suited for this track, so feeling really proud of the team for that. I feel for Mitch, I think we both had the pace and the opportunity for a podium today. Hoping to take this positive momentum into the next race weekend in Shanghai.

Nick Cassidy
Jaguar TCS Racing driver, #37

Another intense but highly entertaining race today to culminate the weekend here in Berlin. We started the day very well with a good qualifying for both drivers and improvement in our one lap pace from yesterday, great work from all to do this. The race was another example of where good race craft and critical decision making at the right time is key. Ultimately, we have a lot to be proud of after another double‑points finish, Nick on the podium again this weekend in second place, and Mitch fighting for a podium right up to the final laps. The team and drivers have worked their socks off and this weekend’s results and learnings are massive motivation for the next two races in Shanghai.

ABOUT JAGUAR TCS RACING

Jaguar returned to racing in October 2016, becoming the first luxury manufacturer to join the all‑electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship street racing series.

In the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, Jaguar TCS Racing finished runners‑up with 292 points – the team’s biggest points haul in Formula E.

Mitch Evans finished third in the 2023 Drivers’ World Championship with 197 points, his biggest points haul in Formula E, and continues to compete for the team in 2024. Nick Cassidy joins the team’s driver line‑up for the 2024 season of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The 2023 season saw all teams race with the Gen3 car, the world’s first net zero race car. Jaguar TCS Racing continues to race with the Jaguar I‑TYPE 6 in 2024.

Beyond its all‑electric concept, Formula E is unique in the world of motorsport for its choice of venues. The 2024 championship will take place on existing tracks and temporary street circuits in the centre of the world’s major cities including Mexico City, Diriyah and Monaco, with new locations including Tokyo and Shanghai. The season finale will play out across a double‑header race weekend in London.

As an official manufacturer team in Formula E, Jaguar TCS Racing designs its own powertrain, which includes the motor, transmission, inverter, and rear suspension. Jaguar, via its long‑term Formula E technical partner Fortescue WAE, will supply Envision Racing with its powertrain for the Gen3 era.

To control costs, the carbon fibre chassis and battery are common components and the same for all eleven teams. This allows the focus to be on developing efficient and lightweight electric vehicle powertrains which will improve the performance and range of future JLR electric vehicles.

Formula E remains a key priority for JLR and the company’s Reimagine strategy. As the premier all‑electric world championship, Formula E allows the team to test and develop new electric vehicle technologies in a high‑performance environment. It continues to be the test bed for the team’s Race to Innovate mission that will see Race to Road and Road to Race learnings that will help shape the electric future – a future that Jaguar is passionate about, and dedicated to for the benefit of our society, the changing landscape of mobility, sustainability and our clients.

Through our Race to Inspire mission, Jaguar TCS Racing are committed to inspiring the future generation by using the race programme to create a positive impact on our planet and the communities in which we race. From competing in the world’s first net carbon race car to supporting and training the next generation of engineers and motorsport professionals.
