Sam Bird drove an incredible race to finish his home E‑Prix in a provisional fourth‑place position. The team head into tomorrow’s final race of the 2023 season on equal points with customer team Envision Racing.

Throughout the race, action‑packed from start to finish, Mitch climbed an impressive five places to lead the pack from lap 9. Whilst the Kiwi focussed on the task at hand and leading the race, behind him a dramatic E‑Prix was unfolding. During lap 15, Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy suffered front wing damage causing him to retire and a safety car was deployed. Lap 29 saw another safety car, before a red flag and race stoppage. At the rolling restart Mitch led Sébastien Buemi, António Félix da Costa and Jake Dennis before a second red flag was flown just minutes later when the track was blocked due to an incident at turn 19.

The second race restart saw Mitch hold his lead, pull clear and take the chequered flag, securing his fourth ABB FIA Formula E win of the season. In the midst of an aggressive pack, Sam navigated his way into a strong points‑scoring position, finishing in fourth after a penalty was applied to Da Costa.

We came into this penultimate round of the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship needing a clean and clever race with some fortune in our favour, that’s exactly what we’ve had. Mitch’s pole position under pressure was very impressive and then he went on to execute a truly world class inaugural home race win for the team. In such an intense race, Sam’s fourth‑place finish was a huge result for him and the team, and collectively brought our teams’ championship back alive. It was amazing to race in front of so many of our fans, colleagues, friends and family. Securing Jaguar TCS Racing’s fourth win and tenth podium of the season has contributed to our record‑breaking year and shows our continuous improvement. My congratulations go out to Jake Dennis and all of the Avalanche Andretti team for the drivers’ world championship title – they’ve been great competition for us and delivered a very strong season.

I couldn’t be prouder of everyone at Jaguar TCS Racing. We’re enjoying the world championship fight and we’re not giving up. Bring on the final round tomorrow.

James Barclay
Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal

I wanted to take the fight to the final day of the championship and I gave it my everything. Today I got pole position and won the race but Jake Dennis drove an incredible drive again. Congratulations to him and all of the Avalanche Andretti team for winning the drivers’ title. There are a number of things that could have gone differently this season but the teams’ championship is now the priority. I know how much it’d mean for all of the team to win championship, so we’ll give it everything we’ve got again tomorrow.

Mitch Evans
Jaguar TCS Racing driver, #9

The race was chaotic in normal Formula E style, so I hope the fans enjoyed it. It was a very strange race but I am pleased to have scored strong points for the team. I was hoping for a P3, but P4 is a decent job. It was important to score these points for the team and we now have a fighting chance of bringing home the teams’ world championship title. The Jaguar I‑TYPE 6 is looking strong and it will be a big day tomorrow.

Sam Bird
Jaguar TCS Racing driver, #10

The final round of the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship begins at 17:00 local time on Sunday 30 July.

ABOUT JAGUAR TCS RACING

Jaguar returned to racing in October 2016, becoming the first luxury manufacturer to join the all‑electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship street racing series. In season eight, Mitch Evans finished as runner‑up in the drivers’ standings – his most successful result in Jaguar TCS Racing’s Formula E campaign.

Formula E is a real‑world test bed for Jaguar with its journey to becoming an all‑electric luxury brand from 2025. Jaguar TCS Racing’s goal is to ‘Reimagine Racing’ and together the team will test, develop, learn and collaborate, sharing insights across JLR which will benefit future road car development. Specifically, learnings and technology transfer from Formula E will help ‘Reimagine” the Jaguar brand coinciding with the company’s commitment to the Gen3 era of Formula E.

2023 is the first year for the teams to be racing with the Gen3 car, the world’s first net zero race car.

As an official manufacturer team in Formula E, Jaguar TCS Racing designs its own powertrain, which includes the motor, transmission, inverter, and rear suspension. Jaguar, via its long‑term Formula E technical partner Williams Advanced Engineering, will supply Envision Racing with its powertrain for the Gen3 era.

To control costs, the carbon fibre chassis and battery are common components and the same for all eleven teams. This allows the focus to be on developing efficient and lightweight electric vehicle powertrains which will improve the performance and range of future JLR electric vehicles.

Teams have two race cars, one per driver, which will be used for the full race distance.

Beyond its all‑electric concept, Formula E is unique in the world of motorsport for its choice of venues. The 2023 championship takes place on temporary street circuits in the centre of the world’s major cities including Mexico City, Diriyah and Rome, with new locations including Hyderabad, Cape Town, and São Paulo. The season finale plays out across a double‑header race weekend in London.

In 2022, Jaguar TCS Racing finished fourth in the teams' standings with seven podiums, four wins, one pole position, one fastest lap and 231 points scored – the team’s biggest points haul to date. New Zealander, Mitch Evans finished last season as runner‑up with Sam Bird finishing thirteenth overall in the drivers’ standings.

Formula E remains a key priority for JLR and the company’s Reimagine strategy. As the premier all‑electric world championship, Formula E allows us to test and develop new electric vehicle technologies in a high‑performance environment. It continues to be the test bed for our Race to Innovate mission that will see Race to Road and Road to Race learnings that will help shape our electric future – a future that Jaguar is passionate about, and dedicated to for the benefit of our society, the changing landscape of mobility, sustainability and our clients.

Through our Race to Inspire mission, Jaguar TCS Racing are committed to inspiring the future generation by using the race programme to create a positive impact on our planet and the communities in which we race. From competing in the world’s first net carbon race car to supporting and training the next generation of engineers and motorsport professionals.
