SÉRGIO JIMENEZ WINS JAGUAR I-PACE eTROPHY IN ROME TO LEAD THE SERIES

13 April 2019

Sérgio Jimenez, driver for Jaguar Brazil Racing, converted his pole position into 20 points at the first European race of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY series in Rome. The Brazilian took top spot on the podium and scored maximum points in the Italian capital.

  • Brazilian driver, Sérgio Jimenez, is the fifth driver in five races to win a Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY race in Rome
  • Bryan Sellers, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, and Simon Evans, Team Asia New Zealand, secure second and third respectively in changeable weather
  • Bandar Alesayi celebrates his fourth win in five races in the PRO-AM championship to extend his lead
  • The Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY series continues in Paris on 27 April 2019

As the chequered flag fell at the end of the 25 minutes plus one lap race, Bryan Sellers and Simon Evans completed the podium in second and third respectively. Evans tussled closely with championship rival, Katherine Legge, on track but maintained his podium position.

With seven minutes of racing action left, the rain came down in Rome which saw PRO-AM driver, Ahmed Bin Khanen, drive off the track and lose the PRO-AM race lead. His Saudi Racing teammate, Bandar Alesayi benefited from this mistake and now celebrates his fourth win in five races.

Taking my first win at the mid-way point of the championship is a great incentive to keep up my performance for the rest of the season. I have been on the podium three times but it feels brilliant to finally be in first position.

The wide circuit layout in Rome allows you to carry more speed in to the corner but with the barriers only centimetres from the side of the car, it’s vital you keep the correct racing line. After 25 minutes of pushing and changeable weather conditions, I couldn’t be happier with this result.

Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY VIP driver, Luca Salvadori, had a successful first electric race in his home country, qualifying tenth and gaining two positions on track, finishing the weekend in eighth.

It’s great to be in Rome and racing around this historic city. The performance of the cars has been very consistent over the weekend considering the large elevations at this circuit and that gives us great confidence going in to the rest of the season.

A special congratulations to Sérgio Jimenez for his first win and to Bandar Alesayi for winning yet another race in the PRO-AM category. I would also like to congratulate our VIP driver, Luca Salvadori, who swapped his regular two wheels to four this weekend and was unphased by the changeable Rome weather.

The next Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY race is in just two weeks’ time on 27 April 2019 in the French capital, Paris.
