Valencia, Spain, Friday 19 October 2018: Panasonic Jaguar Racing today finalised its pre-season testing programme at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, ahead of the 2018/19 ABB FIA Formula E Championship.

Nelson Piquet Jr and Mitch Evans completed over 450 laps, more than any other team, at the Spanish venue in mixed conditions. The British team focused on the reliability, efficiency and performance of the all-new Jaguar I-TYPE 3.

All 11 Formula E teams took part in the Valencia test, which offered the only opportunity for the 22-car field to run on track together before the inaugural Ad Diriyah E-Prix on 15 December.

With over 800 new parts, including a powertrain built entirely in-house by Panasonic Jaguar Racing, the Jaguar I-TYPE 3 is faster and more efficient than its predecessor.

Jaguar I-TYPE 3 rolls in after on track testing

James Barclay, Team Director Panasonic Jaguar Racing: “This week’s test is the first time Panasonic Jaguar Racing have run both racecars on track together. It has given our team a lot of valuable data to run through ahead of the Jaguar I-TYPE 3’s race debut.  We had a set programme, which focused on race simulations and energy management and this has proved to be very useful for our preparations. There’s a lot of positivity in the team and expectations are for a highly competitive season five, but we still have work to do before the first race in December.”

Nelson Piquet Jr, Panasonic Jaguar Racing, #3: “It is always enjoyable to get back in the car and see all the teams and drivers after months of hard work in the factory, on the simulator and in private testing. We’ve put in the most number of laps despite the rain and got some crucial information from our qualifying and race runs to assess between now and the first race. The team have done a great job and I can’t wait to get racing in eight weeks time.”

Mitch Evans, Panasonic Jaguar Racing, #20: “The weather conditions today have been quite challenging, it’s not often we get rain in Formula E, but it has been a good opportunity to test out the new Jaguar I-TYPE 3 in different conditions. The car is still very new for everyone so every kilometre counts. I’m really enjoying the challenge of getting to grips with all the settings and power modes.”

ABOUT PANASONIC JAGUAR RACING

Jaguar returned to racing in October 2016, becoming the first premium manufacturer to join the all-electric ABB FIA Formula E Championship street racing series.

Jaguar’s Formula E programme will create tangible R&D benefits for the electrification of future Jaguar and Land Rover road cars and is designed around the team’s founding principle, ‘Race to Innovate’.

Manufacturers can design their own powertrain, which includes the motor, transmission, inverter and rear suspension. Common components across all teams to control costs include the carbon fibre chassis and battery. The focus is on developing electric vehicle powertrains. ABB FIA Formula E unveiled earlier this year the Generation 2 racecars. Teams will now have one racecar per driver, and no longer be required to make the mandatory car swap.

Beyond its all-electric concept, Formula E is unique in the world of motorsport for its choice of venues. The championship takes place on temporary street circuits in the centre of the world’s major cities including Hong Kong, Berlin, Monaco, Rome, Paris and ending in a double-header weekend in New York.
